HelpA catchall mailbox is a mailbox to which any email not destined for a specific mailbox will be delivered. This is better explained with an example: If you have the following mailboxes:
In the above example, any email sent to john@example.port995.com will be delivered to the corresponding mailbox, as will jan@example.port995.com be delivered accordingly. However, what happens if an email is sent to jim@example.port995.com? As this address has no specific mailbox assigned, normally the email would be rejected with the message “user unknown”. However, because of the catchall entry, rather than being bounced the email will be delivered to the catchall mailbox (@example.port995.com). Similarly, any other addresses which do not have specific mailboxes assigned will be caught by the catchall mailbox and delivered to this address. This type of catchall entry can be very useful for if you do not want any email sent to your domain to be bounced. As well as creating a catchall mailbox, you can also create a catchall email forwarding. For example, if you would like any undefined recipients to be redirected to info@example.port995.com, this can also be set up.
