If an email cannot be delivered to it's recipient, it should be “bounced” back to it's sender who will receive a bounce message with the reason the email couldn't be delivered and a copy of the message.

The most common reasons emails are bounced are because the mailbox doesn't exist (if the address is misspelled, for example) or because there is not enough space in the mailbox.
