Help
To ensure you are in the correct area of the control panel, click on the option marked
“Mailboxes” on the left-hand menu. If you have not yet created any mailboxes, this
screen will be mostly empty. To create a new mailbox, simply click on the “New”
button on the right-hand side of the screen.
Note - After clicking the “new” button, entering a password, and
then clicking the 'Activate' button from the left of the panel, the account is effectively ready
to use. The remainder of this guide deals with the various options you will see for managing
your mailboxes.
Once you have done this, you should be presented with all of the options for your new mailbox.
To familiarise yourself with the various settings, let's start with the top row:
- Address
- The text you fill in here will make up your email address. You only need to enter the part
before the “@” symbol, you can then select the second part of the address (the
domain name) from the drop-down list.
- Password
- This is the password you use to authenticate yourself when collecting your email. If you
are using authenticated SMTP to send mail using Port995, this is also the password
which will be required.
Note - After entering any new text in either of these fields (or making any
changes on any page in the control panel), be sure to click the “OK” button located
in the bottom-right of the page.
On to row 2:
- Active
- Twice as simple as it sounds. If this box is ticked, it means the mailbox is active, and
will receive email. If for any reason you need to disable the mailbox without completely
removing it, simply untick the box.
- Outgoing
- If this box is ticked (and it will be by default), it means you can use Port995 as your
outgoing (SMTP) mail server, by authenticating during your SMTP session. Most, if not all mail
clients should support this. The username and password you will need to use with authenticated
SMTP will be the same as those for collecting from that mailbox.
- Virus Scan
- Ticking this box will enable virus-checking on both incoming and (assuming you use our SMTP
server) outgoing emails. Please note that this may incur slight delays on email delivery at
times.
- Whitelist
- If you enable this option, people sending email to the associated address for the first time
will have to verify their from address as being valid. This option can be used to reduce the
amount of spam received from throw-away accounts. For more
details, please see the help section on our Whitelist
system.
- Autoresponder
- This allows you to select an autoresponder for use
with the mailbox. It requires that you have already created at least one autoresponder in the
Autoresponders area of the panel. (If you are
unsure of how to create a new autoresponder, please see the relevant
HowTo
- Forward to
- If you need your email to be forwarded to a different address (this can be any valid email
address), simply enter the target address in here. Entering an address here will prevent emails
from being delivered to the mailbox — you cannot deliver to the mailbox and forward to
another email address.
If you wish to forward to multiple destinations then create a comma seperated list (with no
spaces either side) of e-mail addresses (for example
‘fred@example.com,jane@anotherdomain.co.uk,frank@again.org’
The last row of options gives you control over which emails you want to receive, and where they
should go...
- Spam filter
- This option determines how strict you want to be on filtering out
spam. For detailed information on the meanings of the various
spam filter settings, see the spam-filter
help page.
- Blocks
- Any blocks you have created in the
Blocking area of the panel will be listed here. Select
one or more, and they will be applied to your incoming mail.
- Filters
- Any filters you have created in the
Filtering area of the panel will be listed here.
Select one or more, and they will be applied to your incoming mail.
- Quota (bytes)
-
By entering a number here, you can limit the amount of disk space allocated to this
particular mailbox. If any further emails are sent to this mailbox after it has exceeded its
quota, the sender will receive a bounce message letting them know.
Note - Be sure to remember that the number you enter is in bytes.
1Mb = 1000000 (1 million) bytes 1Kb = 1000 (1 thousand) bytes
