Help
To ensure you are in the correct area of the control panel, click on the option marked 'Filtering' on the left-hand menu. If you have not yet created any filters, this screen will be mostly empty. To create a new filter, simply click on the 'Create' button.
The fields to fill in are as follows:
- Name
- This value is simply a reference to allow you to locate the correct filter when assigning filters to mailboxes.
- Priority
-
When an email is received, it is checked against any filters you have enabled (see the Filtering and Blocking section). If the email matches more than one filter, the filter with the highest priority will be used.
The priority should be a number between 1 and 100. The higher the number, the higher the priority.
If two filters have the same priority, an arbitrary decision will be made on which filter to use. For this reason, if you think two filters may match for a single email it is best to specify different priorities for the two filters.
- Rules
- Rules are used to define how to identify certain emails, and what to do with them after they have been identified.
To define a new rule, do the following:
- Click on the button labelled 'New' (Note - This should be the button within the grey area surrounding this particular filter, NOT the 'New' button on the far right of the screen under the 'Action' column - the latter will create a completely new filter rather than a rule).
- From the drop-down list that appears, choose from the various criteria to match on. eg: If you want to check the subject line of your emails for a particular word, select 'with subject' from the list.
- In the empty text field next to the drop down list, enter the value you want to use. So, using the example above, if you wanted to search for all emails with the word 'money' in the subject, you would enter 'money' here.
Note - You can add more than one criteria, simply by repeating steps 1 to 3.
At the bottom of the filter entry, there is a text field where you specify what to do with the emails which have been identified using your criteria. Again, select an action from the drop-down list, and then enter an appropriate value in the empty text field.
If you wish to filter to a folder, enter the folder name in the text field. If you want to deliver to a sub-folder, enter the path to the folder, with each entry separated by full stops.
As usual, when you are happy with your changes, click the 'OK' button in the bottom right corner to finalise them, and click 'Activate' when you have finished making changes in your panel.
